Stanford controlled game one jumping out to an early 6-2 lead on four consecutive UCI hitting errors that included two solo blocks by Shoji. The Cardinal continued to lead 27-24 when the Anteaters went on a 4-0 streak using two kills by Smith and one by Jablonsky to take the 28-27 advantage. Stanford would tie the game at 28-28 on a kill by Ceran, but UCI would end the game with a kill by Jablonsky and a Cardinal hitting error, 30-28.
Game two was all UC Irvine as they opened the set 7-1 and never looked back going on to a 30-22 victory. Reinholm had five kills in the game for UCI.
UCI led 8-7 in game three when the Anteaters would score the next five points behind the wicked serving of Aaron Harrell, who had two aces in that span. Stanford would get no closer than five the rest of the game as UCI went on to a 30-22 win.
No. 2 UC Irvine improves to 12-2 overall and 7-2 in the MPSF, while Stanford goes to 1-12 on the year and 1-7 in league play. UCI returns to action tomorrow versus No. 13 Pacific at 7:00 p.m. in Crawford Court.
